Hip and Knee Pain

Physiotherapy For Hip and Knee Pain

Hip and knee pain is a very common problem that can result in you not being able to do the things that you love.  Physiotherapy can help by assessing your injury to find the root cause of your pain. We will then develop a treatment plan to address these issues so you can enjoy living pain-free again.

Sub-Conditions

Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome

What It Is
Greater trochanteric pain syndrome is a condition where you experience pain and discomfort on the outside of your hip.  It often comes on slowly over time without a specific means of injury.

How Physiotherapy Can Help
Physiotherapy can help by identifying the dysfunction in your strength or movement that is causing your pain. We will use manual therapy to improve joint mobility and release tight muscles. We will use electrical stimulation to reduce your pain. And we will provide you with home exercises to help to strengthen weak areas.

Muscle Strains

What It Is
Muscle strains are common in the hip and knee region because several muscles cross both the hip and the knee joint.  This makes it harder for our brain to coordinate the use of these muscles and can result in a “pulled” muscle.

How Physiotherapy Can Help
Physiotherapy can help by using electrical stimulation to reduce pain. We will optimize tissue healing and reduce swelling by using ultrasound. We help release tight muscles with manual therapy. Corrective exercises will help you return to activity and prevent future injury.

Jumper’s Knee

What It Is
Jumpers knee is a painful condition in the front of the knee. It is caused by an overuse injury to the tendon on the front of the knee.

How Physiotherapy Can Help
Physiotherapy can help by using electrical stimulation to reduce pain. We will optimize tissue healing and reduce swelling by using ultrasound.

Manual therapy will release tight muscles and correct dysfunction that has resulted in the overuse injury.

We will guide you through corrective exercises. These will help to strengthen the tendon and correct the underlying issue that has caused the injury.

Patella Femoral Pain Syndrome

What It Is
Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS) is caused when the cartilage under your knee cap becomes irritated, often from overuse.

How Physiotherapy Can Help
Physiotherapy can help by identifying the cause of the irritation. This can happen for a number of reasons such as incorrect biomechanics of the hips and legs, incorrect form while lifting or running, or landing mechanics while jumping.

Once the underlying cause of the syndrome is identified, manual therapy and corrective exercises can be used to correct these issues.

Meniscus tears

What It Is
The Meniscus is part of the cartilage in your knee that helps to deepen the socket of the joint and acts as a shock absorber.

They are broken into two categories; traumatic and degenerative.

In traumatic injuries the meniscus is injured through an incident, usually involving a twist of the knee.

Degenerative meniscus tears happen with overuse later in life. This happens because the meniscus becomes more rigid and less elastic, which makes it more prone to injury.

How Physiotherapy Can Help
Physiotherapy can help by reducing pain and swelling, correcting biomechanical dysfunction with manual therapy. We provide you with corrective exercises to strengthen the legs and maintain flexibility.
