Our Story
1991
Joanne founded Vista Place Physiotherapy in River Park South, originally located in a different unit within the same mall.
2001
Vista Place grew and required more space, prompting Joanne to move the clinic to its current location.
2001-2023
Joanne and the Vista team continued to serve St. Vital, with her longest-serving physiotherapist, Barb, and Haley, who joined in 2013. Vista has always been client-centered, passionate about physiotherapy, and community-focused, with a strong emphasis on manual therapy.
May 2023
A few months after reconnecting at a Blue Bombers game, Joanne sold the clinic to Derek. Vista and Windsor Park Physio (now Local) have always been sister clinics, making the transition a natural fit.
August 2024
After 33 years as Vista Place Physio, the clinic was renamed Local Physiotherapy Vista Place. We continue to serve our community with the same passion and care that made Vista great from the start.
Beginnings
The clinic started out as Vista Place Physiotherapy, founded by Joanne Carswell in 1991. Joanne grew the clinic with heart and passion, raising her daughters alongside the business, making it a true family effort.
Vista has always been deeply integrated into the St. Vital community, regularly sponsoring local teams, schools, and students. Joanne, an accomplished physiotherapist, alongside her dedicated team members Barb and Haley, has ensured that Vista delivers the highest care to the St. Vital neighbourhood.
Clinic Purchased
Derek and Joanne had known each other for several years through Joannes teaching at the University of Manitoba and Derek doing a placement with Joanne during his training. After reconnecting at a Blue Bombers game, they met for coffee shortly after. The timing was perfect – Joanne was ready to take the next step in her life, and Derek was eager to grow his practice.
Vista Place Physiotherapy had the same neighbourhood and community-centered feel that Derek appreciated in Windsor Park, making it an ideal addition. Joanne had built an incredibly friendly and skilled team that had been with her for years. Her excitement and passion for physiotherapy were contagious, qualities that anyone who has met her can immediately recognize. In May 2023, Joanne sold the clinic to Derek, confident that he would carry on the community spirit and love for our profession.
Rebrand
In August 2024, Vista Place Physiotherapy officially became LOCAL Physiotherapy. We continue to be your neighbourhood clinic where everyone is welcome, comfortable, and valued.
